Serving at St. John

ACOLYTES enhance the congregation’s experience of the service by lighting candles, carrying crosses, torches, flags, and banners in the procession, and they may also assist in the preparation of the Eucharist at the altar. While we love to have children who are of 10 years of age as acolytes, people of all ages may be acolytes at St. John.

Anyone interested in this ministry should contact Fr. Munson.

ALTAR GUILD: The St. John the Divine Altar Guild includes a devoted group of women who lovingly prepare the altar for Mass each week. The Altar Guild prepares the fair linens, set up the altar, and assures sufficient supplies are maintained. Members care for the linens, vestments, candles, and utensils used in services of the Eucharist.

Any who are interested in serving the Lord through Altar Guild should contact Susan Morris.

DIVINE STITCHES consist of a group of loving women who share a passion of sewing.  The group provide things such as comfort blankets to the Burkburnett Police and Fire Department to have on hand when responding to incidents involving children and to Patsy’s House in Wichita Falls.

Any who are interested in serving the Lord through this sewing ministry should contact Susan Morris.

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS help serve the bread and wine at the Eucharist. They are lay persons, but they have special training and are licensed by the bishop so they can serve consecrated bread and wine at any celebration of the Eucharist.

Any one who is interested in this ministry should contact Fr. Munson.

LAY READERS/LECTORS are congregation members who read the Scripture lessons during services. Lectors prepare carefully to read the lessons in our gathered worship so they can lead others to a deeper understanding of the meaning of the passage.

We encourage all adults who have been confirmed and can demonstrate the ability to read the Word with clear distinction and a strong, reverential voice to contact Fr. Munson.

SIMPLY BLESSED STAMPING is a group of ladies who gather to make beautiful hand-made cards.  These cards are sent to anyone who are in need of a little bit of sunshine.

Any who are interested in this ministry should contact Laurie Munson.

USHERS, GREETERS & OBLATIONERS  Our ushers and greeters welcome everyone to worship, and make sure the service flows smoothly by distributing bulletins and worship booklets and by helping all people who come to worship feel comfortable.

Our Oblationers are usually one of our families who volunteer to bring forward the bread and wine.

Any one interested in this ministry should contact Fr. Munson.

WORSHIP LEADERS are also congregation members with special training. They are authorized to lead public worship under the direction of the Clergy. Worship Leaders at St. John also serve as Eucharistic Ministers.

Any one interested in this ministry should contact Fr. Munson.

    • Inaugural Service of Launching The Mothers’ Union MinistryInaugural Service of Launching The Mothers’ Union MinistryTime: 10:00 am
On behalf of The Rt. Rev. Ryan Reed, Bishop of the Episcopal (Anglican) Diocese of Fort Worth, and the Committee for the Strategic Plan of the Diocese, you are invited to the Inaugural Service of Launching The Mothers’ Union as a ministry within our Diocese.
The Inauguration will take place at St. Vincent’s Cathedral on Saturday, August 20, 2022, beginning at 10:00 a.m. with Eucharist (Votive of Saint Mary, Patron Saint to the Mothers’ Union).
Bishop Reed will preside and Bishop Lawrence Dena (Retired Diocesan of the Diocese of Malindi, Kenya) will preach.
Afterwards, there will be a Reception in the Parish Hall where more details about Mothers’ Union will be shared by those who have been part of Mothers’ Union elsewhere.
Started in England in the late 1800s, Mothers’ Union is an international Women- led ministry of the Anglican Church. It is vibrantly active in other parts of the Anglican Communion. For some reason, Mothers’ Union never took root in the United States, but has been visibly active in other parts of the world: the United Kingdom and other European countries, Africa, the Caribbean, Australia, New Zealand, and parts of Latin America.
      ALL ARE INVITED
